    Staying away from my usual ‘watering holes’ was paramount for me in my first month or so. Now, people drinking around me is okay. For a couple of hours! Then I leave them to it.

  3. Great post! But, I have something to add to it. Boredom. People in recovery need to keep busy, with work, hobbies, whatever, because, many, with too much time on their hands, will end up back where they started. The addictions speak to still minds, trying to draw them back in. I know this from experience.

    1. Bravo! This is one of my biggest traps – too much unscheduled time. My sponsor used to tell me that if I was bored, it meant that I was boring. I couldn’t have agreed more. When you are used to instant “fixes” and large rushes of adrenaline and drama, it’s hard to get used to the slower pace of reality.
